Anthony Anderson was born on August 15, 1970, in Philadelphia. He grew up in Compton and graduated from the Hollywood High School Performing Arts Magnet.

For college, he went to Howard University, and after graduation, he tried standup comedy. Anderson described his first few attempts as failures, but he didn’t give up and gave it his best.
